Recognising and Honouring Emotional Labour

Recognising and Honouring Emotional Labour

In this Episode I’m focussing on the emotional component of our roles as Yoga Teachers, as opposed to the cognitive and physical parts. Specifically, we are talking about emotional labour and understanding how knowing the rules of what is OK to emote, regulating our own emotions and then performing sometimes contradictory emotions in an important part of the work we do, but without support, can lead to poor mental health outcomes. Oh, and there’s some tips on managing it better, too.

3 Tips To Stick With It When It's Tough

3 Tips To Stick With It When It's Tough

I received this really important message on Insta: “How do you keep up motivation and ‘positive energy’ (because potential clients can smell stress a mile away) when in the inevitable starting out phase of having minimal clients and not covering costs let alone surviving on your love project? Also, how do you make peace with the ego and maintain a sense of identity when transitioning from a ‘well respected’ job in society’s eyes to running your business which has far less street cred?” Here’s my answers!

Shakuntala and the Risk of Expecting Fairness

Shakuntala and the Risk of Expecting Fairness

Despite having what she thought was a ‘water-tight’ contract, the mother of the Mahabharata’s namesake was still rejected and left broken-hearted. Do we deserve to be treated well? Should we rely on others keeping their word? And if not, how on earth do we stay positive, hopeful and moving forward?
